254 SMO Bar is a high alloyed austenitic stainless steel grade. This stainless steel grade has been developed for use in seawater and other media containing corrosive chlorides.

The SS 304L electrode is a variant of Type 304 with a lower carbon content to improve weldability and reduce the risk of reduced corrosion resistance around the weld. For severely corrosive environments, lower levels of SS 304L Bars were chosen due to its excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion. The industries that mainly use this level are nuclear power, general engineering, etc.

Generally, extruded stainless steel flat bars and stainless steel angles are hot rolled, annealed and pickled. Dimensional tolerances conform to ASTM A484/A484 M-06. The absolute roughness of hot rolled stainless steel round bars is higher than that of drawn bars. This is not a problem when rebar is only used for strength and corrosion resistance properties. But when the bar is used for aesthetic applications and outdoor fixtures, cold drawn stainless steel round bar is preferred because of its smooth surface and less absolute roughness. Bars can also vary in size. Typical range is 5mm to 450mm radius.

ASTM A479 can be described as a standard specification for stainless steel bars. They are available in custom shapes and sizes for use in boilers and pressure vessels. The material specification is available in four grades including austenitic, austenitic-ferritic, ferritic and martensitic grades. They have good mechanical properties such as high tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, etc. These can be used for hot and cold working bars.

Higher operating temperatures for ASTM A276 Type 304 bars are possible due to the material’s high melting point of 1400 degrees Celsius. Bars come in different sizes, sizes and types such as ASTM A479 GR 304 Bright Bar and SS 304 Round Bar. A479 is a specification covering hot rolled bar, cold drawn bar, and pressure vessel bar. The pressure vessel code requires SS UNS S30400 hot rolled bar to be able to handle high pressures. The material can have different sizes.

In fact, in most non-specialized environments or installations, it may be better to use lower grades of heat resistance such as 304, 304l, 316, and 347 stainless steel bar.

The Stainless Steel 304 Round Bar, as the name suggests is made up of 304 grade stainless steel material. It has around 18% chromium and 8% nickel in its chemical composition. The round bar shows high resistance to corrosion and enhanced strength properties. The material is quite strong with around 515 Mpa min tensile strength and min yield strength of 205 MPa.
