254 SMO high end austenitic stainless steel pipe fabrication
Stainless steel grade 254 SMO? is a very high end austenitic stainless steel.
Alloy 254 SMO contains high levels of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen and is often used in high chloride environments such as brackish water, sea water, pulp mill bleach plants and other chloride process streams. It has even been found to be a more cost-effective alternative to high nickel and titanium alloys in some applications. Solution annealing temperature is 2100?F (1150?C) minimum. Parts should be rapidly quenched after solution annealing to prevent intermetallic formation and consequent loss of impact strength. 254 SMO is a high alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other corrosive chlorine-containing media.
