316L prefab pipe resistant to certain types of corrosive environments
316 stainless steel has more carbon in it than 316L. This is easy to remember, as the L stands for “low.”
SAE 316L grade stainless steel, sometimes referred to as A4 stainless steel or marine grade stainless steel, is the second most common austenitic stainless steel after 304/A2 stainless steel. It protects metals from corrosion and related damage. The amount of chromium in the alloy¡ªand the amount of other metallic elements¡ªwill vary depending on the grade of stainless steel you use. Stainless steel 316L / 1.4404 can be used for hot and cold rolled sheet/plate and strip, semi-finished products, bars, rolled wire and profiles, as well as seamless and welded pipes for pressure applications.
