316L S31603 1.4401 1.4436 stainless steel weld fittings stub end
Type 316 is much more resistant to sulfuric acid solutions than any other chromium-nickel type. Type 316 is resistant to acid concentrations up to 5% at temperatures up to 120¡ãF (49¡ãC). This type has excellent resistance to higher concentrations at temperatures below 100¡ã F (38¡ã C).
Type 316 is an austenitic stainless steel with the addition of molybdenum to improve the alloy’s corrosion resistance. It is almost as popular commercially as 304 stainless steel. The mechanical properties of this alloy are similar to Type 304, except that this grade is stronger at elevated temperatures. Type 316L is a low carbon version of Type 316 that minimizes carbide precipitation due to welding.
Type 316 stainless steel with molybdenum is also resistant to a variety of other environments. This alloy has excellent resistance to boiling 20% phosphoric acid. It is widely used to process hot organic and fatty acids. This is a factor in the manufacture and handling of certain foods and pharmaceuticals, where molybdenum-containing stainless steel is often required to minimize metal contamination.
