Corrosion resistance of 317 and 317L should be the same in any given environment. One exception is that the alloy will be exposed to temperatures in the 800 ¨C 1500¡ãF (427 ¨C 816¡ãC) range for chromium carbide precipitation. Each of these alloys excels in tensile strength, durability and corrosion resistance. Alloys 317 and 317L are molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steels. Due to the 3-4% molybdenum content, 317 and 317L are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion than Type 304. 317 and 317L are used in the food, pharmaceutical, marine and construction industries.
