431 round bar stainless steel round steel bar
431 is a high chromium, low nickel, high hardenability martensitic stainless steel with high strength and good corrosion resistance. Compared to other 400 stainless grades, 431 stainless steel is designed to improve corrosion resistance and toughness, especially in quench hardened stainless steel. The 431 will perform well in marine environments as well as in aerospace applications such as aircraft fasteners and accessories. This alloy has great impact strength at high hardness levels.
431 has very good corrosion resistance Good resistance in general atmospheric corrosive environments, good resistance to mild marine and industrial environments, resistance to many organic materials, nitric acid and petroleum products, and high tensile strength elongation and high yield strength as well as excellent toughness in the quenched and tempered condition.
Of all the martensitic grades of stainless steel, 431 has the best corrosion resistance. Some other applications include: bomb racks, bolts, pump shafts, valve stems and aircraft fasteners. Higher corrosion resistance is only available with age hardenable martensitic stainless grades. The 431 is available in round bar, strip and wire. 431 is fully hardenable to Rc44 due to its excellent hardenability, depending on carbon content and section size. Small sections can be air cooled, while larger sections can be oil quenched for maximum hardness.
