SS316 stainless steel has more carbon than SS316L. Nickel and molybdenum are the main chemical ingredients which are used in manufacturing process of stainless steel SS316 pipes. With adding molybdenum in the producing process, it effectively improves alloy corrosion resistance, specifically in the environment that is highly exposed to crevice corrosion in chloride based environments.

The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. Flange connects the pipe with various equipment and valves. Breakup flanges are added in the pipeline system if regular maintenance in required during plant operation.
A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.
A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object (as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc., or on the lens mount of a camera); or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails). Type 316 is much more resistant to sulfuric acid solutions than any other chromium-nickel type. Type 316 is resistant to acid concentrations up to 5% at temperatures up to 120¡ãF (49¡ãC). This type has excellent resistance to higher concentrations at temperatures below 100¡ã F (38¡ã C).

316L stainless steel possesses less carbon and molybdenum than typical 316 steel, which gives the two alloys different characteristics.

Grade 316L Stainless Steel Tubing was specifically designed for the intention of being used in applications where a welding procedure to be performed on these tubes is considered to be a mandate. Hence, the content of carbon has been reduced in the Stainless Steel 316L Bright Annealed Tube, which is indicated by the letter L after the alloy grade. A reduced carbon content in seamless stainless steel tubing 316l also makes it structurally weaker in comparison to the regular grade 316 alloy. In order to bring the mechanical properties of the 316l stainless steel tube seamless at par with grade 316, the alloy has a significant addition of nitrogen.

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. It has a higher corrosion resistance than regular steel and is widely used because of the ease in which it is formed into various shapes.[1]

A butt weld pipe fitting is designed to be welded on site at its end(s) to connect pipe(s) together and allow change in direction or pipe diameter, or branching or ending.

This fitting then becomes part of a system for transporting fluids (oil, gas, steam, chemicals, …) in a safe and efficient manner, over short or long distances.

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

A flange is a ring of steel (forged, cut from plate, or rolled) designed to connect sections of pipe, or to join pipe to a pressure vessel, valve, pump or other integral flanged assembly. Flanges are joined to each other by bolts, and to the piping system by welding or threading (or loose when stub ends are used). Type 304 stainless steel is a T 300 Series Stainless Steel austenitic. It has a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, combined with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is defined as a Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy.304 stainless steel is used for a variety of household and industrial applications such as food handling and processing equipment, screws,[3] machinery parts, utensils, and exhaust manifolds. 304 stainless steel is also used in the architectural field for exterior accents such as water and fire features. It is also a common coil material for vaporizers.
