AL-6XN alloy is easy to weld using similar parameters as Type 316L stainless steel, including travel speed (IPM) and weld current. It is common to use a weld insert ring for additional alloying when orbital or manual welding in the field.

321 Stainless Steel (UNS S32100/ASTM A193 B8T) is a very close relative. While 347 stainless steel is stabilized by the addition of niobium and tantalum to resist intergranular corrosion, 321 is stabilized by the addition of titanium. By adding niobium and tantalum, this material prevents the formation of chromium carbides. Since these elements have a stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, niobium-tantalum carbide precipitates within the grains rather than forming at the grain boundaries.
