304L is preferred. And it lacks a minimum carbon content, which is not ideal for high temperature applications where optimum strength is required, so 304H is the first choice. The low carbon content of stainless steel 304 hex bolts minimizes chromium carbide precipitation from welding and its susceptibility to intergranular corrosion.
