ASTM A276 S30400 1.4301 flat bar
Grade 304 stainless steel is the standard “18/8” stainless steel; it is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel available in a wider range of products, forms and finishes than any other. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics.
In the case of ASTM A479 Type 304l rebar, tensile and yield strength are a hit property. Therefore, although corrosion resistance and weldability are good, a276 type 304l bar does not make structurally sound parts. It has chemical and mechanical properties very similar to 304 stainless steel. The only difference between them is the carbon content, which has a maximum carbon range of 0.03%, while 304 stainless steel round bars have a maximum carbon range of 0.08%. The balanced austenitic structure of grade 304 enables deep drawing without intermediate annealing, which makes this grade dominant in the manufacture of drawn stainless steel parts such as sinks, hollowware, and pans. For these applications, a special “304DDQ” (Depth Drawing Quality) variant is usually used.
