UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

304 stainless steel does have one weakness: it is susceptible to corrosion from chloride solutions or saline environments such as the coast.

Originally developed to combat seawater corrosion, AL6XN has expanded its role as a good mid-range corrosion resistant alloy. AL6XN screw is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen containing “super austenitic” stainless steel alloy. AL 6XN threaded rods are super austenitic AL 6XN threaded rods are super austenitic, made from an alloy containing limited carbon content of chromium, nickel and molybdenum. AL 6XN threaded rod is resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

The purpose of preparatory heat treatment is to improve processability, eliminate internal stress and prepare a good metallographic structure for final heat treatment. The heat treatment process includes annealing, normalizing, aging, quenching and tempering, etc.

Stainless Steel 316 is an austenitic grade designed with excellent nickel and chromium content. This grade also contains a small amount of silicon, which improves the oxidation resistance of the module. In fact, stainless steel 1.4401 is often used in process streams containing halides such as chlorides because of its resistance to said compounds. The addition of molybdenum to stainless steel 316 tube alloys not only improves resistance to chloride pitting but also general corrosion.

Although grade 304 performs well in freshwater applications with low levels of chlorides i.e. less than 100 parts per million, exposure of the alloy to higher chloride levels makes the UNS S30400 304 Stainless Steel Flanges susceptible to both crevice corrosion and pitting.

It also has a high resistance to pitting in chloride solutions, a high resistance to both crevice and stress corrosion cracking. Alloy 904L performs better than other austenitic stainless steels due to the higher alloying of nickel and molybdenum.

304/304L cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Cold working increases tensile strength and hardness. Annealing range is between 1850¡ã and 2050¡ãF. Cool quickly. Water should be used for heavier parts; air for lighter parts. The stress relief range is between 400¡ã and 750¡ãF.

316 pipe bend is primarily used in construction and infrastructure because it is strong, resistant to pitting, and corrosion resistant in most circumstances.

Grade 304L is a low carbon version of 304 which does not require post weld annealing and is therefore widely used for heavy duty components (about 6mm+). The higher carbon grade 304H can be used at elevated temperatures. The austenitic structure also gives these grades excellent toughness, even at low temperatures.
