S31803 is the Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation for the original duplex stainless steel. The UNS system was created by multiple trade groups in the 1970s to reduce confusion when the same alloy was called different things, and vice versa. Each metal is represented by a letter followed by five numbers, where the letter represents the metal series, i.e. S for stainless steel.

General corrosion resistance is considered by many to be very good. Alloys 800H and 800HT exhibit excellent creep and stress rupture under solution annealed conditions.

The austenitic structure of 316 stainless steel provides excellent toughness even at low temperatures.

Chromium molybdenum has a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel, which enables designers to use thinner walled tubing or smaller diameter tubing to reduce overall weight.

The fatigue strength of S31803 nuts is also very good under all extreme conditions. Duplex stainless steel UNS S31803 nuts also have good fatigue strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, cracking, pitting, erosion, etc.

Additionally, the higher content of chromium used to alloy the stainless steel 304 seamless pipes are what provides resistance against oxidizing solutions up to a temperature of about 176¡ãF such as nitric acid, up to 55% weight.
