The addition of molybdenum and a slightly higher nickel content make stainless steel 304 blind flanges suitable for construction applications in harsh environments, from contaminated Marine environment to areas with temperatures below zero.

Stainless steel 304 lap flanges are ideal for applications that require better corrosion resistance than Type 316 with good high temperature strength. The stainless steel 304 ring joint style flange is a low carbon version and is immune to sensitization. Therefore, stainless steel 304 eyeglass blind flanges are very frequently used for heavy duty welded components. Stainless steel 304 Nippolet flanges are considered resistant to pitting corrosion in chloride drinking water at ambient temperature, degrading at 60 degrees Celsius.

Stainless steel 304 flanges are made from the 18/8 chrome-nickel austenitic stainless steel alloy most used in stainless steel applications.

This specification includes flanges for pressure vessel grade applications. The material has good strength and general corrosion resistance, high operating temperature. The minimum yield strength of 304 stainless steel flange is 215MPa, and the minimum tensile strength is 505MPa.

The material can withstand temperatures up to 870 degrees Celsius. There are different types of flanges such as SS 304 slip flange for precision applications of seamless pipes. Flanges are available in nominal bore diameters from ?” to 48″. There are also different pressure classes in A182 F304 flanges, ranging from 150 to 2500, also known as pressure numbers. Pressure values vary from PN6 to PN64.

Stainless Steel 316 Flanges are made up of an austenitic stainless steel that has chromium, nickel and molybdenum in the content. The 4% molybdenum addition to the composition makes a difference in the mechanical properties as well as physical properties.

ASME B16.5 Butt Weld Flanges shall be equipped with cut square heads when wall thicknesses are less than 5mm, and shall be provided with flat beveled ends when wall thicknesses are from 5mm to 22mm (inclusive), or when wall thicknesses are greater than 22mm Should be equipped with compound beveled end mm. Butt weld ends shall be machined in accordance with ASME B16.25.

Stainless Steel Raised Weld Face Flanges for blocking the ends of piping systems or valves. The raised face is designed to concentrate more pressure into a smaller area on the flange, providing enhanced sealing capability at higher pressures. Butt weld flanges are also designed to match the inside diameter (ID) of the connecting pipe. This flange is ideal for high pressure, high temperature and sub-zero temperature applications. This flange is inserted and welded to the connecting pipe.

As the name suggests, alloy steel butt weld flanges are welded to the bottom of the pipe. Flange holes match pipe holes, allowing undisturbed product flow and reducing turbulence and erosion at joints.

Stainless steel butt weld flanges are widely used in high pressure applications where they provide support strength and stress distribution. While ASME B16.9 butt weld flanges can be radiographed for flaw detection and are very durable.

A butt weld flange is a steel flange designed to transmit stress to the pipe to reduce high stress concentrations at the bottom of the flange. Compared to other types, butt weld flanges are distinguished by their tapered hub and smooth transition from flange thickness to pipe wall thickness. They are resistant to deformation and are typically used in high pressure piping systems, high or low temperature conditions.

These flange styles are also known as “Straight Hub Weld Flanges” according to ASME B16.5 subsection 2.8 and are given minimal detail in the governing code. This is because long weld necks are selected on a per application basis according to the specific engineering requirements of a given tank or pressure vessel. The working pressure, temperature and medium of the vessel are all key factors in determining which type of long butt weld flange connection you need.

RFWN flanges (raised face weld neck flanges) are one of the most commonly used flanges in the plumbing industry. Their long tapered hub matches the wall thickness (hole) of the pipe and is easy to identify.

Weld butt flanges and long butt weld flanges provide reinforcement in applications requiring high pressure and in extreme low and high pressure situations. It also helps address low cycle fatigue caused by otherwise variable force linear expansion.

Weld flange holes are machined to match the ID of the pipe or fitting. This creates a smooth transition between weld neck flanges and prevents turbulence at the weld neck. Therefore, it is important to specify a piping plan when purchasing butt weld flanges. Butt weld flanges are welded to the pipe with a full penetration weld and provide excellent stress distribution through the tapered neck. In critical applications, welds are also often radiographically or UT inspected.

Butt weld flanges are available in both raised and flat configurations. The most common butt weld flanges have standard holes or extra heavy holes. Sch 120 or Sch 160 hole flanges, heavier weights such as 600# to 1500#, are also common in butt weld flanges. A butt weld flange (WN) conforming to ASME B16.5 is a typical one-piece flange. It is integrally cast or forged with a tapered neck butt welded to the tube. This design provides a smooth transition with few stress concentrations, as high stress concentrations at the bottom of the flange are reduced by transferring stress to the adjacent piping.

There are no gaps or grooves that could lead to crevice corrosion. Conical necks are also known as “nozzle necks” or more commonly “high hubs”. Although expensive, butt weld flanges are the best designed butt weld flanges because the long tapered hub provides excellent strength and dent resistance.

According to ASME B16.5, the hub of the butt welding flange can be roughly divided into a tapered part and a straight long part. The processing straight length is 6mm, which is precisely matched with the adjacent pipes, which is convenient for welding. Butt weld flanges are drilled to match the inside diameter of the adjacent pipe. The thinner the pipe wall, the larger the hole through the flange. The thicker the wall, the smaller the hole. Because of these matching relationships, there are no restrictions on traffic. Turbulence and erosion are thus eliminated.

This flange is suitable for harsh environments with extreme temperatures, pressures or other stressors. The elasticity of this flange is achieved by sharing environmental stresses with the pipe to which it is welded. This flange has been used successfully for pressures up to 5,000 psi.

Weld-on flanges are the most popular type of flanges with a weld bevel at the end of the neck extension. This type of flange is designed to be butt welded directly to the pipe to provide a superior and relatively natural form connection. In larger sizes and higher pressure ratings, this is pretty much the only type of flanged connection used. If only one style of drilled flange exists in modern applications, the weld neck flange will be your flange of choice.

The weld bevel is attached in a V-joint to the pipe end with a similar bevel, which allows for a uniform circular weld around the perimeter for a uniform transition. This allows gas or liquid within the piping assembly to flow through the flange connection with minimal restriction. Check the welded bevel connection after the welding procedure to ensure that the seal is uniform and free of abnormalities.

Another distinctive feature of butt weld flanges is the tapered hub. This type of connection provides a more gradual pressure distribution along the transition from the pipe to the bottom of the flange, helping to withstand some of the shock that occurs when used in higher pressure and higher temperature operating environments. Mechanical stress is limited considering the extra steel that transitions along the hub.

Butt weld flange, also known as tapered hub flange or high hub flange, is a flange that transfers stress to the pipe, ensuring that high stress concentrations at the bottom of the flange are reduced. There are two butt weld flange designs – the first is for rags, while the second, longer type cannot be used for pipes, but for processing plants.

Since higher pressure ratings almost exclusively require this type of flange connection, butt weld flanges are usually made with ring joint faces (also known as RTJ faces). This sealing surface allows a metal gasket to be crushed between the grooves of the two connecting flanges to create an excellent seal and complement the high-strength welded bevel connection to the pressurized piping assembly. RTJ weld necks with metal spacer connections are the primary choice for critical applications.
