Stainless steel 316 flanges are made of austenitic stainless steel containing chromium, nickel and molybdenum. Adding 4% molybdenum to the composition makes a difference in mechanical and physical properties. ASME SA182 SS 316 butt weld flanges and other types are especially suitable for chloride ion corrosion resistance. Therefore, these flanges are used in the marine, seawater, wastewater management, pollution control, food processing, petrochemical and oil and gas industries. SS 316 Blind Flange is another type of flange for closed pipes. These are useful on production lines that require frequent maintenance.

Stainless steel 316 flanges are made of chrome-nickel-molybdenum alloy and are primarily used in environments susceptible to chloride ion corrosion. The addition of molybdenum makes the material resistant to corrosion, especially in chloride-rich conditions.

The 316 material is available in high carbon and low carbon versions, depending on the welding needs and toughness of the intended application. 316 stainless steel flanges are used in virtually all industrial applications, including petrochemical, oil and gas, food processing, pharmaceutical, seawater, marine, construction and structural applications.

ASME SA 182 gr f316 flanges have flat raised faces and ring joint faces. The peculiarity of the ring joint is that it is divided into two halves and connected as two halves by welding to the pipe end. Stainless steel a182 f316 is the second largest stainless steel material in the world with a minimum yield strength of 215MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 505MPa.

ASME B16 47 Series A flanges are thicker, heavier, and stronger than Series B flanges. A-series flanges can withstand more external loads than B-series flanges. ASME B16.47 Series B flanges require a smaller number of fasteners than Series A flanges.

They also have a smaller bolt circle diameter than Series A flanges. Smaller bolt circle diameter results in less flange movement after installation. Both the A-series and B-series standards define raised face (RF) butt-weld and blind flanges, but only the A-series defines ring joint (RTJ) flanges from classes 300 to 900 in this standard. In terms of price, ASME B16.47 series A flanges are more expensive than ASME B16 47 series B flanges.

Flanges are rounded edges with outwardly projecting flanges or ribs that sometimes create strength at the joint. There are different types of flanges and different material grades are used to produce these flanges.

Flanges can be said to be a method of connecting pipes. Sliding flanges are mainly used for low pressure fluids with minimal leakage risk. Stainless steel sliding flanges are usually used for water pipes, low pressure compressed air, etc.

Reducing flanges change pipe size without adding additional fittings. The reduction in flanges is always abrupt compared to what can be achieved with concentric butt welded reducers. Reducer flanges are usually available as threaded reducer flanges or reducer flange slides. A 6″ x 4″ reducer slip on a flange will have the flange dimensions (outside diameter, bolt circle diameter) of a 6″ flange, but have the holes of a 4″ flange. This allows it to mate with 6″ pipe via a flange connection, but connect 4″ pipe instead.

ASME B16.5 slip flanges are a quality and safety standard trusted by various industries. These standard flanges are used in various industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, fire water lines and more.

The ring joint face is designed with a grooved groove into which a metal ring gasket is inserted to form a seal with the mating flange. Metal rings are available in oval or octagonal shape. The most common material for ring joint gaskets is 316 stainless steel, which makes it ideal for corrosive applications. ASTM A182 F304 slip flange is another commonly used flange, stainless steel containing chromium and nickel. 18% chrome and 8% nickel make these flanges more durable. The stainless steel 316L slip flange has added molybdenum for increased resistance to general corrosion and chloride ion solutions.

The tongue and groove face has a small contact area with the sealing element, which provides good gasket compression at low bolt loads. The groove groove acts like an annular groove and provides a good way to accommodate the gasket. This is ideal for high pressure applications. The flange is a raised face sliding flange made of 304L material. Sliding flanges allow pipes to slide easily over them, while raised faces help maximize connections. Type 316 is a molybdenum steel machining process that increases resistance to pitting corrosion in solutions containing chlorides and other halides. Additionally, it provides excellent tensile, creep and stress rupture strength at elevated temperatures. Type 316 is available in low carbon (316L) and high carbon (316H) alloys.

316 stainless steel flanges, the second-highest among austenitic stainless steel flanges, are the regular molybdenum-containing sizes. SS 316 Socket Weld Flanges have a carbon content and are the best choice for high temperature applications. Grade 316 Stainless Steel Forged Flanges (BLRF) contain molybdenum and are generally more resistant to corrosion than Grade 304.

Reducer flanges are used to reduce the diameter of pipes at the point of connection. A flange is essentially a circular object with a lip or collar on it, which is used for bolting and welding operations. These objects such as stainless steel reducing flanges are very useful in pressure level applications where the connection of two pipes must be absolutely tight. The reducing flange is important because it reduces the diameter of the pipe and supports the maintenance of pressure and fluid flow in the application.

304 stainless steel is a low carbon (0.08% max) version of base 18-8 (also known as 302). Type 302 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Type 304 is slightly less strong than 302 due to its lower carbon content. Type 304 is used in welding applications because the low carbon allows some exposure in the carbide precipitation range of 800¡ãF – 1500¡ãF without the need for a post annealing operation . However, the severity of corrosive environments may require annealing after welding or using 304L. Type 304L has a carbon content of 0.03% or less.

ASME B16.47 covers large diameter steel flanges from 26″ nominal to 60″ nominal pipe sizes. There are two types of B16.47 flanges, A series and B series. The thickness, bolt circle diameter and number of bolt holes are slightly different between the two. Pressure classes covered by B16.47 are Class 75, 150, 300, 400, 600 and 900#. Standard cover flanges are cast, forged or sheet metal (blind flanges only).

The ASME B16.5 standard covers steel pipe flanges and flanged fittings from NPS 1/2 to NPS 24 metric/inch pressure classes 150 to 2500. It covers pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, markings, tests, and methods to specify openings for pipe flanges and flange fittings.

Two very important flanges, such as butt welding flanges and blind flanges, are very commonly used in piping systems. The terms “B16.5” or “B16 5” are used interchangeably and refer to the same standard. However, standard ASME B16 5 (ANSI B16 5) only covers sizes up to 24 inches. For larger sizes, the ASME B16.47 standard covers pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, marking and testing for NPS 26 to NPS 60 size pipe flanges and is available in classes 75, 150, 300, 400, 600 and 900.

The ASME B16.47 standard includes MSS SP-44: Steel Pipe Flanges and API 605: Carbon Steel Large Diameter Flanges. Therefore, MSS SP44 flanges are equivalent to A series flanges and API 605 flanges are equivalent to B series flanges. The materials covered by this standard are the same as those in ASME/ANSI B16.5, with the exception of nickel alloys. They also have the same pressure temperature rating as B16.5 flanges.

The A182 F316L Rtj reducing flange is a special type that has two halves as rings. The rings are welded together with pipes of the same size, then the two halves are fitted together for maximum hold. SS reducing flanges are available in different pressure classes such as class 1500 to class 600.

There are different material grades such as duplex steel non-reducing flanges and stainless steel flanges. There are different pressure calculations such as 10 bar to 60 bar or PN16 to PN64. There are carbon steel reducing flange types with high wear and tear resistance.

A reducing flange is a special type of flange that proves beneficial when used in projects that require fitting two pipes of different sizes together. There are many different types of reducing flanges, some of which are as follows – Weld Neck Reducers, Drop-in ASME B16.5 Reducers and Threaded Reducers.

This flange type is designed to connect via butt weld connections to pipes or equipment that require flanged joints. Weld necks provide good service in a variety of temperature and pressure applications. Butt weld flanges must specify a pipe plan for drilling. Due to the welded neck, it is a popular choice for pressure vessels and creating manholes, etc. These flanges are also known as ANSI flanges or ASME B16.5 flanges.

In addition to ASME B16.5, manufacturers use the ASTM A182 specification in the construction of these flanges. ASTM A182 SS Reducer Flanges with Hubs are designed for use in high temperature environments. This is why these alloy steel reducing flange materials are often supplied by heat treatment.
