Grade 317 stainless steel pipe spools
Alloy 317L is non-magnetic in the annealed condition.
In general, austenitic stainless steels experience chloride stress corrosion cracking in halide service. Although 317L is more resistant to stress corrosion cracking than 304/304L stainless steel, it is still susceptible due to its higher molybdenum content. However, some processes involve extreme operating conditions requiring higher performance characteristics than those offered by these alloys. Alloy 317L (UNS S31703) is a molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel with significantly improved chemical resistance compared to conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as alloy 304.
