Alloy B (UNS N10001) was developed to resist hydrochloric acid. Hastelloy B2 has replaced it. Alloy B3 (UNS N10675) is a newer variant with higher thermal stability. These alloy B2 bolts are a wrought nickel molybdenum alloy that can be used in the as-welded condition. It is highly resistant to hydrochloric acid of all concentrations and temperatures. Known as UNS N10665 bolts, these bolts are also resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting.

Hastelloy C276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum wrought alloy considered to be the most versatile corrosion-resistant alloy known. This alloy is resistant to grain boundary deposits in the weld heat affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. Meanwhile, Hastelloy C276 fasteners are considered to be the most versatile and high-strength fasteners, finding their suitability in many industrial applications. These are nickel-molybdenum-chromium forged alloy fasteners that perform well in a variety of harsh environments. The presence of molybdenum and chromium content makes nickel alloy steel more resistant to crevice and pitting corrosion. Hastelloy c276 bolts are the highest quality bolts in the alloy series. These are corrosion resistant, which is important for the industries in which Hastelloy is best suited.

Hastelloy C-276 is the most common corrosion resistant material currently available, but it is not foolproof. Metals should not be exposed to high temperature, strong acid environment. Also, it is easier to work with cold working practices; hot working makes it easier to harden. If hot working, the temperature should be maintained between 1600¡ãF and 2250¡ãF.

Hastelloy C-4 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with outstanding high temperature stability. It has high ductility and corrosion resistance. It’s high temperature resistance up to 1900 ¡ãF (1038 ¡ãC) makes it suitable for most chemical process application in the “as” welded condition.
Like other nickel alloys, it is ductile, easy to form and weld, and possesses exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-bearing solutions (a form of degradation to
which the austenitic stainless steels are prone). With its high chromium and molybdenum
contents, it is able to withstand both oxidizing and non-oxidizing acids, and is resistant to
pitting and crevice attack in the presence of chlorides and other halides.

Hastelloy c22/C276 fasteners have good dimensional accuracy, corrosion resistance, durability, high durability, high flexibility, strong structure, high tensile strength and other characteristics. The presence of molybdenum and tungsten provides good resistance to reducing media. The nickel content of Hastelloy c22 fasteners provides admirable resistance to oxidizing aqueous media. These fasting agents also work well wet in environments containing chlorine, formic acid, and acetic acid.

It has outstanding resistance to a wide variety of chemical process environments including ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated mineral acids, solvents, chlorine and chlorine contaminated (both organic and inorganic), dry chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, sea water and brine solutions and hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions. Alloy C276 also resists formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat affected zone making it useful for most chemical processes in the as-welded condition. It has excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

Hastelloy B3 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with profound resistance to stree-corrosion cracking, pitting, corrosion and thermal stability greater to that of alloy B2.

These salts may develop when hydrochloric acid comes in contact with iron and copper. Therefore, if this alloy is used in conjunction with iron or copper piping in a system containing hydrochloric acid, the presence of these salts could cause the alloy to fail prematurely.

Our Hastelloy B2 Ring Joint Type Flanges is not recommended for use in the presence of ferric or cupric salts as these salts may cause rapid corrosion failure. Ferric or cupric salts of these Hastelloy B2 Nippo Flanges may perhaps develop when hydrochloric acid comes in contact with iron or copper.

Hastelloy C276 Welded Pipe is ideal for chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. By adding tungsten to ASTM B622 UNS N10276 alloy C276 pipe, its corrosion resistance becomes superior.

Hastelloy B2 is resistant to pure sulfuric acid and many non-oxidizing acids. This alloy should not be used in the presence of oxidative contaminants in oxidizing or reducing media. Premature failure may occur if Alloy B2 is used in the presence of iron or copper in systems containing hydrochloric acid.

Hastelloy fasteners such as bolts, screws, nuts and threaded rods are ideal for use in a variety of moderately to severely corrosive acid environments. The most common grade of Hastelloy fasteners is Hastelloy C276 (2.4819), which is one of the most versatile corrosion-resistant nickel alloys, surpassing Inconel or Monel. There are also other special grades of Hastelloy fasteners that can address more niche corrosion problems.

In fact, these Hastelloy c276 fasteners can be used in oxidizing atmospheres up to 1900¡ãF. Additionally, Hastelloy c276 hex bolts tend to perform extremely well in high pressure environments. For example, ASTM B574 bolts perform well at pressures around 5400 kPa during acid leaching.
