Other corrosives Hastelloy C-22 has resistance to are oxidizing acid chlorides, wet chlorine, formic and acetic acids, ferric and cupric chlorides, sea water, brine and many mixed or contaminated chemical solutions, both organic and inorganic.

C-22 is a great alternative when superaustenitic stainless steels (AL-6XN, 904L, and 254 SMO) and duplex stainless steels (2205 and 2507) will not withstand extremely aggressive media. This is because it is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with better overall resistance to uniform and localized corrosion than any other Ni-Cr-Mo alloy, like Hastelloy C-276, C-4, and alloy 625.

Today, Alloy B2 with restricted chemistry can be used in the welded condition and is less susceptible to SCC under many conditions. As always, care must taken in selecting the right alloy for the desired application.

Nickel- and cobalt-based corrosion-, temperature- and wear-resistant alloys, such as Hastelloy B2, are classified as moderate to difficult when machined, but it should be emphasized that these alloys can be produced at satisfactory speeds using conventional production methods processing. Alloy B Its popularity has been hindered by its availability. All of these materials are good against reducing acids, but very hard against oxidizing acids. Due to the high molybdenum content, this alloy is relatively expensive than other alloys. At the same time, it has excellent corrosion resistance to medium-concentrated sulfuric acid and various non-oxidizing acids, good resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and good resistance to various organic acids.

HASTELLOY C-4 alloy (UNS N06455) is the most (microstructurally) stable of the widely
used nickel-chromium-molybdenum materials, which are well known for their resistance
to many aggressive chemicals, in particular hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and chlorides. This alloy resists the formation of grain-boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, thus making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition.
