The chemical balance allows the alloy to exhibit excellent resistance to carburization, oxidation and nitriding atmospheres. 800HT will not become embrittled even after long periods of usage in the 1200-1600 deg F range where many stainless steels become brittle. Excellent cold forming characteristics typically associated with the nickel-chromium alloys are exhibited with 800HT. When cold formed extensively the grain size produces a visibly undulated surface called “orange peel”. 800HT can be welded by the common techniques used on stainless steels.

Typical applications for the alloy include ethylene pyrolysis, hydrocarbon cracking, cracking furnaces for vinyl chloride, diphenol and acetic acid. The alloy is also used for valves, fittings and other components exposed to corrosive attack from 1100 to 1800 deg F.

Flanges are an integral part of the process industry. Carbon steel is a steel in which the main alloying element is carbon. Steel is considered carbon steel when there are no minimum requirements for chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, nickel, titanium, tungsten or other alloying elements. Carbon steel can be made harder and stronger through heat treatment. These hardness and strength measurements are determined by the carbon content – the higher the carbon content, the harder and stronger the steel will be.

In fact, mild steel is the most commonly used steel grade, accounting for 85% of total U.S. steel production.

Generally speaking, the carbon-free content of carbon steel pipe flanges is lower than that of molten flanges. They don’t oxidize very quickly. They are flat and fairly light in construction, and the fused flanges have excellent mechanical properties. Improper forging methods often result in broad or irregular grains; hardening cracks and forging are taller than cast flanges.

Grade F22 is a low alloy steel grade with a chromium content between 2% and 2.5%. The content of chromium and molybdenum is twice that of F11 grade. However, due to the maximum content of all alloying elements up to 5%, it is classified as a low alloy steel grade. As a low alloy steel grade, ASTM A182 F22 flanges outperform carbon steel, especially in applications involving high temperatures.

The addition of molybdenum and chromium to its alloys ensures better mechanical properties and a certain degree of corrosion resistance. ASTM A182 F22 Class 3 flanges have good atmospheric corrosion resistance and some resistance to scaling when they are exposed to high temperatures. The addition of molybdenum to alloys is generally associated with high stiffness and hardness. Therefore, when included in the chemical composition of Astm A182 F22 Class 1 WNRF Flanges, its toughness gives the alloy an advantage over conventional carbon steel grades.

Because they are produced according to specification ASTM A182, they need to meet certain requirements, such as yield and tensile strength properties. Other mechanical properties required for Sa182 F22 threaded flanges include Brinell hardness and elongation equivalents. In order to improve the properties of the alloy, these parts need to undergo a predetermined heat treatment process. These prerequisites include the type of heat treatment used on the Astm A182 F22 alloy steel flange and the temperature at which it will be performed. During heat treatment, in addition to the quenching process to be carried out, other prerequisites include the medium to which the Astm A182 F22 forged flange is to be cooled.

Alloy steel A182 F5 grade WNRF flanges have welded necks for added strength and grip. These can be used under high pressure gas and liquid flows as they are leak proof.
