304 Piping Spools are made of 304 Stainless Steel, a common and popular material in many industrial applications that require resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Environments that don¡¯t attack 304/304L stainless steel will normally not corrode 317L.

A fit-up and welding process must be applied after the edge finish of the parts. Therefore, for stainless steel and carbon steel pipe spools, parts can be located onto steel bases or wooden bases. Furthermore, any contact possibility between carbon steel and stainless steel must be minimized.

Other popular nickel-chromium alloys are age hardened through the addition of aluminum and titanium.

316L, however, is a better choice for a project that requires a lot of welding because 316 is more susceptible to weld decay than 316L (corrosion within the weld).

Alloy 625 has excellent fatigue strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance to chloride ions. This nickel alloy has excellent weldability and is often used to weld AL-6XN. This alloy is resistant to a variety of severe corrosive environments, especially pitting and crevice corrosion.

Monel 400 is used in process vessels, heat exchanger piping, and gasoline and potable water storage tanks in the marine sector. The non-sparking properties of this alloy make it suitable for high-risk situations in the explosives industry, rockets and pulp and paper industries.

At elevated temperatures the annealed and solution annealed alloy shows good resistance to scaling and has high strength.

The Alloy 800 series (Incoloy 800, 800H and 800HT) are nickel-iron-chromium superalloys that provide high temperature strength and resistance to oxidation, carburization and other types of high temperature corrosion. Alloy 800 (UNS N08800), Alloy 800H (UNS N08810) and Alloy 800HT (UNS N08811) have the same nickel, chromium and iron content, except for the total titanium and aluminium content (0.85 to 1.2%) to ensure optimum high temperature performance.

Pipe spool fabrication is very important because the construction of the ship and other marine industries require intensive piping. Pipe spools create great advantages because they reduce the limitations of space on site.

The surface edges of the components must be even and the surface impurities must be removed. A beveling process is implemented for the edges of the parts. A grinding machine is employed for the beveling process. The type of grinding machines for beveling differs for stainless steel components and carbon steel components.

This nickel alloy is particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated. As would be expected from its high copper content, alloy 400 is rapidly attacked by nitric acid and ammonia systems.

Incoloy 800/800H/800HT are solid solution nickel chromium iron alloys with small additions of aluminium and titanium to improve corrosion and oxidation resistance.

Raw pipes are cut to the required sizes and moved with pipe fittings to a fitting table, where some of the components are fitted together (i.e. temporarily connected). The resulting sub-assembly (part of the final pipe spool) continues with welding operations (i.e. permanent connected) before it comes back to the fitting table and gets fitted with other spool components.

Therefore the selected radius of the elbow can be very important. The other type of elbows is reducing elbows. In this type of elbows, the dimension of the center-line radius equals to the half of the nominal size of the larger end. Reducing elbows, again, maintain a 90¡ã flow change in the pipeline system. Moreover, a 180¡ãflow change can also be maintained by using a specific type of reducing elbow that is called ¡®return bends.

The corrosion resistance of Monel K-500 is basically the same as Alloy 400, except that in the age hardened condition, Alloy K-500 has a greater tendency to stress corrosion cracking in certain environments. Monel K-500 has been found to be resistant to sour gas environments.

With this advantage, all of the pipeline using industries has a great opportunity to increase their pipeline system efficiency and decrease their need for workforce and time.

Hastelloy C276 is known for its excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive media. It includes chloride ions, sulfur compounds, etc. In addition, this alloy has excellent resistance to crevice corrosion, pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It helps resist the corrosive effects of wet chlorine, chlorine dioxide and hypochlorite. This product is ideal for seawater applications.

The high amounts of nickel and chromium in austenitic stainless steels provide excellent mechanical properties, as well as excellent corrosion resistance.

The strength of this nickel steel alloy is maintained to 1200¡ã F but stays ductile and tough down to temperatures of 400¡ã F. Its melting range is 2400-2460¡ã F.

The plasma arc cutter is utilized for large pipes (above 28 inches of nominal pipe size) and its use is also beneficial for cutting off branches. If possible, an internal case must be located into pipes or fittings, in order to protect them from the spatters which are created by the plasma arc cutter. After the cutting, and edge preparation must be maintained.

Pipe spools are pre-fabricated to reduce field installation costs and provide higher quality in the products. They are generally flanged to obtain the connection to other spools. The spool fabrication is normally performed by special companies having the required infrastructure.

With the addition of nitrogen as a strengthening agent, the alloy can be dual certified as Alloy 317 (UNS S31700).

304 stainless steel does have one weakness: it is susceptible to corrosion from chloride solutions or saline environments such as the coast.

This nickel steel alloy is readily fabricated and may be welded in either the annealed or precipitation (age) hardened condition.
