normalizing of 316L S31603 03Ch17N14M3 stainless steel flange
normalized basis
Normalizing removes impurities from steel and increases its strength and hardness. This is achieved by changing the size of the grains to make them more uniform throughout the steel sheet. The steel is first heated to a specific temperature and then cooled by air.
The benefits of standardization
The normalizing form of heat treatment is less expensive than annealing. Annealing is a heat treatment process that brings the metal closer to an equilibrium state. In this state, the metal becomes softer and easier to work. Annealing¡ªwhat the American Foundry Society calls “extreme overaging”¡ªrequires slow cooking of the metal to transform its microstructure. It is heated above its critical point and then slowly cooled, much slower than the normalization process.
