The ductility and corrosion resistance of duplex steel fasteners are reminiscent of their austenitic microstructure. On the other hand, the toughness and hardness of these fasteners are inherited from the ferritic region.
The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of a pool of austenite surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. 2205 is the most widely used grade in the duplex stainless steel family. Meanwhile, Duplex 2205 bolts are used where good strength and excellent corrosion resistance are required. Due to their ferritic and austenitic properties, UNS S32205 bolts are suitable for a wide range of applications in a variety of conditions. Alloy 2205’s austenitic face and high-strength stress corrosion cracking resistance demonstrate ease of fabrication.
