S32750 S32760 Super duplex stainless steel pipes in excellent resistance to chloride pitting

A789 UNS S31803 and UNS S32205 are two grades of duplex stainless steel that are widely used in various industrial applications. 2205 duplex stainless steel is a cost effective solution for many applications where the 300 series stainless steels are susceptible to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Stress corrosion cracking occurs when stainless steels are subjected to tensile stress, while in contact with solutions containing chlorides. Increasing temperatures also increase the susceptibility of stainless steels to stress corrosion cracking.

Duplex stainless steels have a microstructure which is 50% ferritic and 50% austenitic. This composition gives them a better strength than either ferritic or austenitic steels. Further details about this topic are given below (see ASTM A790 pipes).

ASTM A240 Type 2507 Super Duplex Plates must comply with ASTM A240. It is a specification of chrome and chrome-nickel stainless steel plate. Super Duplex 2507 plates are used in general applications and containers.

Super Duplex 2507 cannot be strengthened by heat treating. Annealing is performed at 1920¡ãF – 2060¡ãF (1049¡ãC – 1127¡ãC), followed by rapid cooling.

Duplex stainless steel UNS S31803 Nuts are available in two phase, 5% to 6% nickel alloy steel, ferritic, 3% molybdenum, austenitic 22% chromium.

Combining many of the beneficial properties of ferritic and austenitic steels, 2205 is the most widely used duplex grade. Its high chromium and molybdenum conutenut gives stainless steel excellenut corrosion resistance.

Duplex 2205 has higher resistance to crevice and erosion corrosion than sus316L austenitic stainless grades.
