Like commercially pure nickel, Monel 400 has lower strength in the annealed condition, so various tempers are used to achieve higher strength levels. Monel 400 is resistant to steam and sea water as well as highly corrosive solutions such as sulfuric, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids after degassing. Monel 400 is one of the few alloys that maintains strength at sub-zero or low temperatures, so it is often used in these applications.
