Alloy pipe is a higher percentage of tubular alloying elements such as molybdenum (Mo), chromium (Cr), nickel, etc. than standard carbon steel pipe. In fact, ASTM A335 covers “low alloy” steel pipes, that is, having less than 5% total alloying elements. The addition of higher percentages of alloying elements such as nickel and chromium converts the steel into higher alloys such as stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, up to superalloyed materials such as Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel, etc.
