Due to the chemical composition of Molybdenum (Mo) and Chromium (Cr), A335 is often referred to as Chromium Molybdenum Tube. Molybdenum increases the strength of the steel as well as the elastic limit, wear resistance, impact quality and hardenability. Molybdenum increases resistance to softening, inhibits grain growth, and makes chromium steel less susceptible to embrittlement. Molybdenum is the most effective single additive for improving high temperature creep strength. It also enhances the corrosion resistance of the steel and inhibits pitting corrosion. Chromium (or chrome) is the basic component of stainless steel. Any steel with 12% or more chromium is considered stainless steel. Chromium is almost irreplaceable in terms of resistance to oxidation at high temperatures. Chromium increases tensile, yield and hardness at room temperature.
