Titanium is a transition metal lamp with a silver metallic color. It is strong, shiny and corrosion resistant. Pure titanium is insoluble in water, but soluble in concentrated acid. This metal forms a passive but protective oxide coating (resulting in corrosion resistance) when exposed to high temperatures in air, but at room temperature it resists tarnishing. It has various oxidation states, including 4+, 3+ and 2+. However, oxidation state 4+ is the most stable. Titanium oxide ore is reduced by water vapor and forms dioxide and hydrogen. It reacts in the same way with hot concentrated acid – very little difference. When reacted with hot concentrated acid, hydrochloric acid and trichloride are produced.
