This thin film formed on the titanium tube is called a passive oxide layer, which in turn protects the ASTM B337 titanium seamless tube. Titanium is often chosen as a material of construction for process equipment in chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, and other industrial manufacturing environments. During these processes, corrosive fluids (often at very high temperatures) are brought into contact with equipment surfaces to test the strength and corrosion resistance of the material.
