The ministry of steel has issued a policy on scrap recycling, requiring departments to increase the effective use of scrap by 7 million tons. The policy stipulates that self-sufficiency will be achieved by establishing scrap recycling centers throughout India and establishing scrap environmental management systems to encourage the processing and recycling of scrap and minimize dependence on imported scrap.
According to the policy, about 25 million tons of scrap steel in India currently comes from the domestic disorganized industry, and 7 million tons of scrap is imported annually at a cost of about 245 billion Indian rupees ($3.45 billion).Approximately 70 collection and processing centers are expected to be established to implement this policy.
