NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production gained by 1.3% year-on-year to 1,727,000 net tons in the week ended May 14 while the capability utilization rate was 73.9 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
According to AISI, raw steel production was 1,704,000 net tons in the week ended May 14, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 72.1 percent.
Production for the week ended May 14, 2016 is down 1.2 percent from the previous week ended May 7, 2016 when production was 1,748,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.7 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through May 14, 2016 was 33,484,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.6 percent. That is down 1.2 percent from the 33,900,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.6 percent.
